HISTORY
Germany wins consecutive Women's World Cups.Marta is a standout as Brazil loses in the final.
Nadine Angerer, the goalkeeper, avoids conceding throughout the entire competition
Germany successfully defended their FIFA Women's World CupTM title to solidify their position as a superpower in the women's game thanks to a clinical 2-0 victory over an in-form Brazil team who had lit up the tournament on their way to the 2007 Final. The ever-reliable Europeans did so to become the first team to ever retain the championship, but the 2007 Chinese champions set numerous other records as well.
The inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup Final with European and South American opponents was played in 2007 between Germany and Brazil. A free-scoring Brazil team that had scored 17 goals en route to the championship match, including four against fellow title contenders USA in the semi-finals, faced UEFA representatives Germany, who entered the game with the best defensive record of the competition after allowing no goals in any of their previous five games.
The defending champs ultimately prevailed in a fierce contest between defensive steadiness and offensive flare. The German juggernaut effectively eliminated Jorge Barcellos' aces under the direction of head coach Silvia Neid.
