HISTORY
Japan win first title.Japan wins the Women's World Cup, becoming the fourth country to do so.
In the final match in Germany, The Nadeshiko defeat the USA.
Motivated by Homare Sawa, winner of the Golden Ball and Golden Boot
The FIFA Women's World Cup 2011TM in Germany brought the female side of the most popular sport in the world to a whole new level and will live on in the memory. It was marked by unprecedented enthusiasm, filled stadiums, excellent football, and a fresh new champion.
Many felt that Japan's victory over the United States on penalties in the tournament's finale was a fitting way to end things, especially in light of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck the nation earlier in the year.
The Nadeshiko, led by top player Homare Sawa, used quick passing and technical skill to demonstrate that women's football has fully arrived everywhere.
Japan became became the fourth women's world champions and one of the all-time greats in the sport, following in the footsteps of Norway (1995), the United States (1991, 1999), and Germany (2003, 2007).
