STYLE ANALYSIS: THE DYNAMIC OF THE MEN ON GOSSIP GIRL

Gossip Girl is known for its dazzling costume design, each character has its own personality and unique style. Dan Humprey is a frustrated novelist in a world he does not fit in. Nate Archibald is the golden boy, the perfect non toxic guy who doesn't get the girl at the end of the show but who gets an amazing professional path achiving independence. Chuck Bass on the other hand is the playboy who marries the love of his life but trades her for a hotel. All of them have different storylines and complexities that are translated on their wardrobe.

CHUCK BASS “THE BROKEN DEVIL”:

The devil per se in the show. His attire is absolutely stunning, mostly with shades of dark colors but often opts for an edgy palette depending on the season. Part of his character is being conflicted by love and power, his playboy lifestyle is seen when he wears handkerchiefs and light color blazers but also in red pieces. As a businessman, he tries to embody his father's footsteps, while playing with fashion. During a summer in the Hamptons he wore a white linen jacket and pants with a black vest. His attire is sexy but conservative, dangerous but chic, classic and perfect. Overall, his put together style goes in correlation with Blair, they match in every aspect. If Blair is wearing a yellow gown, he is wearing a silky yellow scarf or tie. Chuck symbolizes power on his pieces, he wants the rest of the world to know that he is the owner of everything he wants.

But his style evolved through the show's run. In season one, his style was very pretty/ ivy league material. Straight out of a Ralph Lauren catalog. Colors like green, red, blue and black went along with the whole St. Judes aesthetic, and not to mention his signature scarves. Everything about his styles during the show is epic, the styling show how mature he has become and how toxic he was for most of the time, but overall, his outfits were always on fleek.

NATHANIEL ARCHIBALD “THE GOLDEN BOY”:

Nate Archibald, aka the perfect man. He is determined, loyal, free spirited, down to earth and fights for what he wants. Most importantly, he loathes nepotism and is an amazing friend, always there when they needed him. A true gentleman and a prince charming.

His style is a very easy breeze, the typical Abercrombie and Fitch model with a twist. His closet abunds garments like light color shirts, jeans and casual tees with an elegant touch. Neutral colors show how classy and easygoing he is. A simple yet minimalist style is what makes him approachable and confident.

Even though he tends to wear navy blue/ black suits at society's galas, or glamorous events with an old Hollywood style, the classic laid back sophisticated men of the Upper East Side. Clashes a lot with Dan and Chuck, Nate is a more sporty guy with a lot of convictions and a failed storyline who happens to combine with Serena’s style.

DAN HUMPHREY “THE ULTIMATE INSIDER”

Dan is definitely the least stylish man of the show, followed by his father Rufus. He is a frustrated artist, an outsider who turns out to be the ultimate bully even when the story tells us that the rich kids bullied him for being poor.

He is a mixture between Blair and Serena and the opposite to Chuck, he relies on Nate for quite some time in which his fashion choices are seen with it. At the beginning, Dan is super structured, put together and desires to go to Yale, his Ivy league choice. He is the typical “jeans and a t-shirt” kind of guy but sometimes he wears jeans and shirts like Nate.

Dark shades like blue and neutral colors like gray and black are his go to. He never wears suits, unless it’s at a prom or the launch of his book or something and tends to wear a more artistic look near the end of GG. He wears the stereotypical and invisible outfits, he doesn't want people to see him yet at the same time he is looking for power, just like Chuck and Blair but with a twist. Jackets and blue distressed jeans are his best friends as well as scarves during NYC’s winter, making a great contrast to characters like Chuck and the balance that Nate brings to the show.
