BACKGROUND HISTORY
Born to a taxi-riding father and a pharmacist mother, Winehouse grew up withinside the Southgate vicinity of northern London. Her upbringing became full of jazz. With contributions from hip-hop manufacturer/keyboardist Salaam Remi, Winehouse's amalgam of jazz, pop, soul, and hip-hop obtained rave reviews. The album became nominated for the 2004 Mercury Music Prize in addition to Brit Awards, and its lead single, "Stronger Than Me," gained an Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song.
