Kelly Clarkson, the first season winner of American Idol, is an all-around entertainer with a powerful voice and a lot of charm. Her warm, multi-octave vocals are equally at home in pop, rock, and country, and she excelled at all of them on the show. Clarkson's fame was instant — her debut "Before Your Love/A Moment Like This" was the best-selling single in the United States in 2002 — but she defined her career almost as quickly. She transitioned from the mainstream pop of 2003's Thankful to the power balladry of Breakaway the following year, which included the anthemic, rock-tinged smash "Since U Been Gone" and the power balladry of "Because of You."
