CULTURAL IMPACT
Lindsay Lohan began her career in show business at the age of three as a Ford model, which led to television commercials for the Gap, Pizza Hut, and Wendy's. As she grew older, she did more television work, including appearances on soap operas such as Another World and The Guiding Light, as well as roles in The Bette Show and the Disney Channel film Get a Clue. Lohan's Disney connection, which included starring as the twins in a remake of The Parent Trap, continued into her adolescence and helped her expand her career into music: in 2003's Freaky Friday, she co-starred with Jamie Lee Curtis and performed the film's theme song, "Ultimate."
The following year, Lohan starred in and contributed two songs to the soundtrack of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Lohan hosted the 2004 MTV Movie Awards and won an award for Female Breakout Star, buoyed by these successes and her starring role in Mean Girls. She also signed with Tommy Mottola's Casablanca Records, and her debut album, Speak, was released in December 2004. The following year, celebrity began to catch up with Lohan. While filming a remake of Herbie, she continued her relationship with Disney. It didn't help that Speak wasn't a smash hit.
