CULTURAL IMPACT
Paramore are known for their anthemic, richly emotive brand of pop-rock, and their acclaim far outweighs their initial success as one of the guiding lights of the mid-2000s emo scene. The group, led by singer Hayley Williams, broke through with 2007's Riot!, reaching number 15 on the Billboard 200 and spawning their signature hit "Misery Business." They debuted at number two with Brand New Eyes in 2009 and topped the Billboard 200 with Paramore in 2013, winning a Grammy for the single "Ain't It Fun?"
The band's sound has evolved over time, embracing an increasingly genre-crossing blend of '80s-style synth and dance-rock influences; a process that also saw them pare down from a sometime-quintet to a trio for 2017's sophisticated After Laughter. Aside from Paramore, Williams has worked on projects with artists such as B.o.B, Zedd, and Chvrches. Petals for Armor, her solo project, debuted in 2020. The album debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200, paving the way for her sophomore release, Flowers for Vases/descansos, in 2021. Williams reunited with Paramore for their sixth studio album, This Is Why, in 2023.
