And Just Like That... Season 2 Review

And just like that, Carrie Bradshaw sold her apartment, AGAIN. And Just Like That's first season was a letdown. The writing had lost its luster, and these individuals didn't seem particularly familiar to us. After losing Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones, the program struggled to make these friendships feel real to us in the manner that it had done so readily previously. Season 2 is, thankfully, a modest improvement over Season 1.

Season 2 excels in the fashion department. This season, I'm obsessed with Carrie's (Sarah Jessica Parker) ensembles, and even characters like Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) have upped their fashion game.

While the writing is still a far cry from the original series, there are more sparks this season, and the characters is more true to type.

And Just Like That has been a relatively fun watch this season, despite its emphasis on ludicrous stories. The build-up to Samantha's (Kim Cattrall's) 70-second phone call was simply not worth the payoff. It's still a lovely, aspirational image of female friendships, endless brunches, and fabulous (often ridiculous) attire that would look ridiculous on 99% of people (except Carrie). The tone remains unpredictable, a jumble of light and shade, but this series feels more genuine.

Is there a term for continuing to watch a show despite the ludicrousness it is? If there is, And Just Like That, the modern-day spin-off of Sex and the City, has never been better described. And Just Like That has been a relatively fun watch this season, despite its emphasis on ludicrous stories. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) had some spicy sequences as she transitioned from parenthood to a job in the New York City art world. It was cathartic and rewarding to see her stand up to her family and recover her personhood. Detaching Miranda from Che and forcing her to confront the repercussions of her actions was a step up from the irrational, disrespectful manner in which she ended her marriage in season 1. . It was a lot of joy to see Carrie go on dates again. Fashion and real estate are always enticing. And Just Like That has viewers hooked for a variety of reasons. However, it has the same effect as pounding cosmopolitans: it tastes good and gets you high, but it may also be overly sweet and leave you with a crushing hangover. Of course, we'll all keep watching regardless. Particularly if we get more Samantha in season three.
