GOLDEN GIRLS. REVIEW.
This quartet of females would form the best core cast of any television series ever. Unlike "Cheers," "The Golden Girls" was a smash hit from the start. On Saturday nights, it ruled with strength and zeal. NBC was concerned that the show would never find a large enough audience to make an impact in the ratings, but for a time, "The Golden Girls" was as good as anything else on the networks. From 1985 to 1992, the four women, all clearly above 50, lived, laughed, and sobbed together in Miami. During its tenure, the series pushed the envelope on everything that dominated news (AIDS, homosexuality, sexism, ageism, abortion, and an unending list of other subjects).
The episodes aimed for comedy, but almost always had a deeper meaning about love and friendship. For the most part, all four women enjoyed equal time in the spotlight.
I'm not going to be innovative and simply declare that The Golden Girls (1985-1992) is pure sitcom gold. This is a show about four women, three in their late 50s and one in her 80s, but few shows can match the brilliance, fun, laughs, good jokes, catchy one-liners, great pacing, sparks, the perfect casting, the unique chemistry between the Girls - the rare fun that every one of the show's 180 (yes, every one) episodes is.
The show about women who are past their prime but are still hilarious, seductive, full of life, attractive, lively, and treasure the gift of friendship is a winner. Back in the 1980s, the casting of four highly outstanding actresses as four friends sharing a house in Miami, Florida proved to be the genuine gold.

Golden Girls, a comic masterclass with the best sitcom theme music of all time, lifted the veil on aging and dealt with big-ticket topics. The Golden Girls had a lot of talent for a comedy that mostly took place in a Florida kitchen. The four leads were all exceptional performers.
