It’s Barbie’s world and we’re just living in it

The Barbie movie marketing staff works even harder than the devil. That's the talk on social media as people get excited for one of the most anticipated movies of the year, which is due to debut on July 21.

With fresh stunts and partnerships announced practically everyday, the marketing team for upcoming film from filmmaker Greta Gerwig is making sure that it's difficult to miss the release.

Fashion fans have been singing the praises of Margot Robbie - who’s playing the title character - and her stylists, who have been digging into the Chanel archives for perfectly Barbie-esque pink tweed jackets as well as choosing colourful pieces from Prada, Bottega Veneta and Valentino as the star embarks on film’s press tour.

Earlier this week, a particularly large stunt surfaced - an Airbnb listing for, you guessed it, Barbie's Malibu DreamHouse.

Images of the pink property have been leaked, despite the fact that the Airbnb photos are of a dollhouse model of the mansion with an infinity pool and an outdoor dance floor. Photojournalist John Schreiber tweeted a video in which he claimed that the literally enormous stunt could be seen from about 10 miles (or 16 km) away.

There are a ton of other brand collaborations and advertising strategies now out there, but The DreamHouse is the biggest of the marketing team's almost endless campaign to bring the Barbie movie into the consciousness of potentially the entire world.

Without her recognizable costumes, what would Barbie be? Many other companies have released apparel with the pink Barbie trademark and paying homage to her flawless sense of style. One brand that stands out is Aldo, which has introduced a collection of shoes and handbags in pink and silver tones with extra hearts and sparkles. Each item also comes in packaging with a Barbie motif.

Claire's, which recently debuted a very adorable line of hair accessories, and Forever 21, which recently unveiled a Barbie collection with items like little skirts and tank tops that coordinate, are other fashion leaders in the '90s era. Magenta suitcases and travel bags are now available from the luggage manufacturer Béis.
