DECODING FASHION TRENDS. BARBIECORE
Hot pink is the new black. Barbie is back in the cultural consciousness, and hot pink fashion is all the rage this summer: celebrities ranging from Lizzo and Anne Hathaway to Ziwe, Glenn Close, Sebastian Stan, and Billy Porter have all stepped out in all-pink ensembles reminiscent of America's favorite doll.
Hello, Barbie-inspired hot pink, and goodbye, muted millennial pink. The reign of rose quartz, which Pantone named one of its colors of the year in 2016, has ended, giving way to a bolder, brighter neon pink that's making waves.
The childhood doll has long inspired and been inspired by fashion, and it's making a comeback as a style muse in 2022 as interest grows in the Barbiecore trend, which emphasizes fun, often over-the-top looks usually reserved for a Barbie doll.
Meanwhile, the fashion world is obsessed with hot pink, thanks to Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli's signature shade. The fashion label's March 2022 Paris Fashion Week show, which featured monochrome pink runway looks and a slew of celebrities dressed in theme, was a major starting point for today's Barbiecore theme. Other high-end fashion houses, such as Prada and Versace, have incorporated hot pink designs into their collections. The trend has now spread to department stores and fast fashion brands. Barbiecore refers to much more than Margot Robbie wearing spandex and roller skates on Venice Beach. It's the color of celebrities and influencers everywhere, similar to how Bottega Green was last year.
But, how can you wear it_ Plattform heels, minibags and midi dresses will fit anyone who wants to rock this trend!
