Decoding Red Carpets. Academy Awards 2023

As the red carpet is eliminated, bridal colors predominate.

If the Oscars is viewed as the height of red carpet clothing, the Academy altered things up for 2023 - with a champagne-coloured carpet. There was a clear similarity between the carpet and the apparel, despite the stylists not being aware of the alteration while they were deciding on their clients' outfits. Dresses in shades of white, beige, and oyster predominated, giving off a somewhat bridal vibe. The place for photographs this year was sheltered rather than outside, and red was believed to be too dark for shots, therefore the carpet's color was changed. But, the new backdrop did not have the same impact as the customary red carpet, which creates contrast for these light colors.

The Oscars' organizers had provided participants with a guide before the show on Sunday, urging them to choose more environmentally friendly options for the red carpet. Few chose to follow these recommendations, but few did, like Rooney Mara, Winnie Harlow, and Cate Blanchett, who opted for vintage Louis Vuitton pieces. There were a few exceptions, but most men wore classic tuxedos. Barry Keoghan, who is being recognized for his vibrant suits, wore a lavender one for the red carpet, and Paul Mescal looked elegant in a cream jacket and wide-legged pants. In a low-cut satin top, Lenny Kravitz lived true to his rock god reputation.
