Fashion Icons Encyclopedia. Marc Jacobs.

Marc Jacobs was one of those adolescent misfits that occupy the North American cinematographic imaginary before becoming a global legend. Jacobs, who was born in New York in 1963, is best known for enthroning and popularizing the grunge movement, an aesthetic and sensibility that was characteristic of American adolescence at the time and which quickly became a World Heritage Site, thanks to Jacobs' designs for Perry Ellis and later for his own brand. After graduating from New York's Parson School, he opted to form his own firm with his colleague and discoverer Robert Duffy. Thus, the Marc Jacobs label was allowed to flourish and thrive thanks to the arrangement signed with LVMH - according to which he would also become creative director of all Louis Vuitton lines.

Whether it was his drive to diversify and secure his own business, his desire to visually conquer the earth, or his admiration for the adolescent universe from which he inevitably detached himself in favor of the adult cosmos, he was moved. Marc Jacobs established a second brand, Marc by Marc Jacobs, in the early 2000s as a result of his progress as a designer, which was more cheap and had a more relaxed and young mood than the first, and whose success prompted him to contemplate developing a third line.

With more than eight annual shows under his direction, the North American is one of today's most influential designers and, together with Miuccia Prada, one of the few capable of predicting –or imposing, depending on how you look at it– the future of thefashion industry. His pieces are bold and edgy with a twist of punk influence.
